New Music Format Undergoing National Test in the Fox River Valley!

WOVM-FM becomes first station in nation to air unique Oasis format.

Appleton, Wis. – Radio station 91.1 FM WOVM has been selected to participate in a test of an innovative hybrid adult contemporary music format that is being prepared for national distribution. The Oasis format will reintroduce listeners to the music they may have heard many times before but will be presented in a way that will shed new light on the lyrics and the stories behind the music.

“Appleton and the Fox River Valley is a perfect testing ground for this new music format,” commented Mike Watts, WOVM General Manager. “This area is well known nationally and has been a test market for all sorts of products, services and innovations because it represents an accurate cross section of American culture and values. If something tests well here, chances are it will succeed just about anywhere in the U.S.”

The new format has been in beta testing since January 7, 2008 when the station switched from airing Christmas music 24/7 to playing artists like Kelly Clarkson, Eric Clapton, Rascal Flatts, Michael Buble and Carrie Underwood. The flagship program of the Oasis format, “The Wendy Templeton Show”, airs Monday-Friday between 7 p.m. and Midnight on WOVM. Prior to coming to Wisconsin, Wendy hosted her own nightly radio programs in Atlanta, Ga., and most recently Tampa Bay, Fl.

“Our listeners have already discovered Wendy and we’ve done virtually no marketing. She’s taken calls from all over the valley - Oshkosh to Appleton to Green Bay,” added Watts. “That tells us that this new format has a great deal of potential and will be very attractive to radio stations in other markets throughout the country.”

“I see music as a way to inspire, to motivate, to relax and to provide us with a way to let go.
